Dr. Emily is now offering acupuncture services to small and large animals. Acupuncture is a 2,000 year old form of Traditional Chinese Medicine that uses small sterile, solid needles inserted into specific points on the body. It can be used to treat specific conditions but Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) principles are based on ‘treating the pattern’, and each animal as an individual. By treating the underlying pattern of disharmony we can balance the body. Electrical stimulation (electrical acupuncture), injection of Vitamin B12 (biopuncture), laser and acupressure are additional techniques that can be used in addition to the dry needle technique in cases where these methods are warranted.
Most animals willingly accept acupuncture treatments. Acupuncture can be used alone or in conjunction with Western veterinary medicine. There is current and past research to support the basis effects of acupuncture. Food therapy and herbal therapies can also be discussed.
Conditions that can be helped or treated using acupuncture include:
- Pain Management
- Disc Disease
- Behaviors like anxiety
- Gastrointestinal disorders
- Renal (kidney) disease
- Endocrine diseases (diabetes, cushings)
- Respiratory disease
- Cardiovascular disease
- Ocular (eye) problems
- Hospice Care
